The Oriental Ceramic Society of Hong Kong was established in 1974, at which time the only requirement for membership was 'an interest in ceramics.' Over the intervening years, the Society has broadened the scope of its activities to cover the full range of study, travel and writing that can be spurred by an interest in collecting or appreciation of Oriental culture and arts. One of the distinctive roles of the Society is that it brings the resources of collectors to the public and encourages collectors to open up their treasures and their treasury of knowledge and experience, both to other members and to the general public. In the past twenty-five years, the OCS has provided a forum for the lively exchange of ideas and information, sponsored publications, held exhibitions, study sessions and travel programmes and has hosted an impressive array of distinguished speakers. In support of these objectives, the Society publishes catalogues of all major exhibitions as well as, from time to time, a Bulletin recording key papers presented to the membership.
